_____________________________________ It was her free period at the moment, normally requiring study in the library or study hall but she'd managed to get a pass to go outside. Being such a nice day, Bria didn't want to be cooped up indoors the entire time and since she was just reading and was a good student she'd been given a pass to leave. So right there she sat sideways on one of the benches in the quad area, her book resting against the picnic like table. Her red hair was pulled up in a ponytail that shifted slightly in the wind and occasionally she had to brush her bangs from her eyes. Her legs were folded across the bench and she had on the school uniform, her plaid skirt and she also wore knee high black socks along with black shoes that fit the bill as appropriate shoes but only just with their heels. She had to be a little fashion conscious even during school hours.
Though right now, there were only a few people milling about who were in other years during their break or others like her who'd chosen the sun instead of the classrooom. There were a few people she was sure were just skipping classes but it was that kind of a day, nice and warm. The sun was beating down nicely so Bria pulled off her cardigan and tossed it to the side with her bag even as she smiled and tugged the tie out of her hair, letting it fall down around her shoulders. Having it pulled back all day gave her a headache sometimes, so she just pushed the locks that now had a kink where they had been held up, behind her ears and continued on with the book she was reading.

--------------------- Leo had a hangover yet again, but it would be hard for anyone to tell. He had them so often they were like his normal state of being. The only way anyone might get suspicious would be by stepping back and looking at his skin. It had gotten pretty pale, paler than normal anyway, because the sun was so hard on his eyes when he went outside. But he knew he would have to start going outside or risk Sienna catching on and telling their parents. He could only hide his alcohol problem up to a certain point and he was getting to that point. So he heaved a sigh as he looked out the window, though his breath caught funkily in his throat when he saw a redheaded girl sitting outside already. He wasn't sure why, but she looked familiar. He wracked his brain, trying to remember, cursing himself for apparently having been more drunk than usual whenever he had seen her. . . it had to be that party Sienna had thrown. Most of the time he alone could only sneak away one bottle of alcohol, not enough to get as hammered as he wanted to, but that night, after maybe seven o'clock, he had passed out and not woken up until three in the afternoon the next day. She had to be from that party. . . he forced away his headache and thought again, and was about to give up when it came to him. She was the one he had been trying to score with at the party. That was sort of a deterrent. In hindsight, he knew he hadn't made the best impression on the girl, whose name he didn't even remember. In fact, he had made a huge idiot out of himself. Maybe he could rectify that. . . he took another breath and pushed the door open, walking outside toward the benches. He had no idea what he was going to do when he got there . . . and then he had arrived in front of the bench where she was sitting. "Oh um, sorry, I uh, I . . ." he began, hopelessly fishing for something to say that wouldn't make him even creepier than she already had to think he was. "I didn't see you," he finished lamely, suddenly realizing that he was carrying nothing with him save his phone. What the hell was he supposed to do out here to prove he hadn't stalked her or something? He backed up a few steps and frantically tried to remember what exactly he had done to embarrass himself while at the same time pretending he had just received a text message. He wanted to apologize to her, but not for something he hadn't done. That would just make things worse, if they were even bad to begin with.

_____________________________________ Bria crossed her ankles across the bench, stretching her toes out with a little sigh as she felt her muscles relax afterwards. She was enjoying the feeling of the sun against her legs and leaning against the picnic table was a nice change from bending over a school desk inside all day. The quad was a pretty place, it was mostly grassed and trees were scattered around so there was enough room to sit in the shade or the sun, whichever you preferred. There was a large tree next to her seat which provided her with enough shade to make sure her rather fair skin didn’t get burnt, damn her red hair.
Biting her lip gently, she turned the page of her novel; Nineteen Eighty-Four and was deeply involved with the book she had read a couple of times now. Occasionally she moved to lift her hand and push her hair back from her face, behind her ear so she didn’t have red swinging back and forth in front of her eyes. Hearing something, she lifted her eyes and saw a couple were pressed against the tree that shaded her table and Bria looked away awkwardly as she continued to hear their lips smacking against each other. Shuffling slightly, she coughed as if she couldn’t hold it in, hoping they would get the hint and move on. Luckily they did and she sighed slightly as they walked off to find somewhere else to make out or whatever they planned to do during school hours.
She turned back to her book but hadn’t been completely sucked back in when she noticed someone walking towards her. Lifting her eyes, Bria saw Leo, the boy that had tried to drunkenly chat her up at the party the other night. Meeting his eyes as he stopped in front of her, she was kind of surprised he’d come out here. He hadn’t made the best first impression and she figured she’d made that clear but then she almost figured he wouldn’t even remember the party. Hearing him stutter out that he hadn’t seen her there, Bria lifted her eyebrow slightly. Well it seemed like he did remember what had happened at the party. Watching him pull out his phone, she bit her lip gently. “It’s alright.” She said softly, he really was a strange boy, even sober.

--------------------- The worst possible scenario was starting to unfold as Leo stood there looking down at the red-haired girl he was sure he had met at Sienna's party. If he had had time to prepare for this meeting he would have had time to think, to remember what exactly he had done. His memory loss was his body punishing him, he knew, but his body could go to hell. It obviously wasn't helping him if he had to resort to alcohol to feel normal. He had even started to take vodka in water bottles to school, and though a few teachers were suspicious, most of the time he was free to get as drunk as he wanted to. Today, he had forgotten the vodka, which made the hangover worse, which made it difficult for him to think clearly. When she looked at him Leo instantly remembered that her name was Bria, and that he had done something at the party to offend her. That was all he needed. He pocketed the phone and smiled slightly at her before stepping back a bit so as not to look as imposing standing over her like that. That done, he stuck his hand into his free pocket and tried to formulate words quickly, coming up with something suitable in a few seconds. "Look, um, I remember you were at that party . . . and I'm sorry if I did anything to offend you there." It was pretty sad that he couldn't even recall negative aspects of anything, and she would probably be offended even by his apology, but he needed to get it off his chest. Also, he was still interested in her, she was still beautiful, but he knew he had a long way to go if he wanted to get in her favor. Maybe he would never get it. But he had to try.

_____________________________________ Bria sat along the bench and watched him as he looked at her before getting rid of his phone and looking like he wanted to talk to her. Pulling her legs towards her, she moved so she was sitting properly on the bench with her feet beneath the table and tilted her body back towards him. He stepped back so she could look at him without craning her neck and he smiled at her. Hearing him say he remembered her at the party and he wanted to apologise for offending her if he had and she was surprised at why he was even bothering to come up to her, she'd understood that she had held his interest there while he was intoxicated but now?
Smiling a little back at him, she didn't want to be impolite even if he had made her uncomfortable that night. "Don't worry about it." She said, standing up and closing her book as she moved herself from being between the bench and table. Bria leaned over to grab her jacket from where it sat on the table and as she moved her arm, her sleeve rose slightly to reveal a dark bruise set against the pale skin of her arm. It had been covered by her shirt and she hadn't noticed it would show as she stood back up and draped her jacket over her arm.

--------------------- Leo was relieved that Bria was so gracious and accepting, because in all honesty he, like most people, didn't like making people uncomfortable, which was exactly what he had done in this case. He apparently did that a lot, made girls uncomfortable, but this particular girl was different. She was prettier than the rest of them, for one, and he felt genuinely remorseful that he had put her through such grief when she had just come to the party for a good time. He could tell she was a little confused as to why he had decided to come up and apologize and smile at her but didn't feel it prudent to tell her right now why he had. That would just scare her away again. Those thoughts wiped from his mind when he saw the bruise on her arm. That didn't look natural. "Hey, that bruise. . . looks pretty bad," he said lamely, gesturing with his head. He didn't know if she wanted him to see it; probably not, but sometimes his mouth ran ahead of his mind. His comment could possibly anger her and he would accept that, but only once he knew what or who had caused her to get hurt. It was pretty scary how he was protective already, but he felt he knew her since they had shared that experience at the party and didn't like seeing her hurt.

_____________________________________ Standing up, she held the book to her chest as she looked at him and wondered if he had just wanted to apologise to her or if he had anything else he wanted to say to her. It was nice of him to care that he had made her uncomfortable but she couldn't help but think maybe there was something else behind this. But maybe she was just imagining it, Bria wasn't sure if this was the end of their conversation or if there was something more he wanted to say. He was strange but he did seem nice, even if he had cornered her in the kitchen and proceeded to almost pass out on top of her, he was making amends to that and seemed like he could be nice sober.
Then he noticed the bruise and she looked up in surprise as he said it looked pretty bad, following his eyes down to her arm and she cursed in her head before quickly pulling the sleeve back down again. Realising a little late it was more suspicious that she'd hurried to cover it up. Bria looked up at him and smiled slightly, feeling worry now at what he had seen, she tried to hard to cover them up. "Oh that, I fell over the other day and hit the wall. It's starting to go down now anyway." She said softly, hoping she was convincing enough that he would leave it alone. Bria didn't like people knowing about her home life, she didn't want to be pitied for having a junkie brother that liked to hurl her around, she just wanted to be left alone so she could graduate and leave her home.

--------------------- Leo realized he was standing here too long looking at Bria, but he couldn't help it. He did have something else to say, but was deciding whether now was the right time to say it, right after he had apologized to being all drunken around her. Right now he was pretty sure they couldn't even be called friends, why did he think he could. . .? Maybe the alcohol had destroyed more of his brain than was previously thought. He knew it had been messing with his thoughts, not just because he always wanted it. It seemed to be harder for him to concentrate on things and absorb information, and he noticed himself being absentminded more often. He wondered if anyone in the family had noticed. Probably not. His thoughts drew pretty quickly to the bruise when she seemed angry and then covered it with her sleeve. Well that wasn't suspicious at all. She hadn't done it to be modest or not gross him out, he knew that despite having dumbed himself down on purpose. Concerned, he knelt a little so he was closer to her height sitting down. "Can I look? I'm sort of an expert on bruises," he said, biting his lip and wondering if he was going too far. This time he wasn't trying to hit on her, he wasn't going to get off on touching her skin, but if she had been so set on hiding the bruise he wasn't sure she would want more attention paid to it.
