_______________________ Dylan sat rapping away at his laptop in the corner, empty cups of mocha strewn around the table. He had a paper due by the end of the day and he was almost done. All he had to do was finish up the essay, save it and send it off. Dylan loved his internet classes. It was just a matter of finishing up the semester of online classes before he started at NYU. His dream school. Jumping when his arm was bumped, Dylan looked up and sighed heavily, a goofy half grin on his face. "Oh, hey John, how long've you been here?" John gave his little brother a once over, shaking his head and setting a cup of water down next to his laptop. Starbucks was not his choice career but while he waited for any of his songs to be picked up, any of his lyrics to be picked up... bills had to be paid. It was bad enough living with his dad, he would at least help out. "My shift started two hours ago... who do you think's been providing you with liquid heroin?" John laughed as Dylan stuck out his tongue. "Hey, the caffeine's helping. I'm almost done with my paper." Dylan was jittering, his fingers twitching and John sighed. That was all his little brother needed. A full blown anxiety freak out later when he didn't have something to focus on. "Jupe.. Water. Drink it. Also, your meds." Rolling his eyes, Dylan saved his paper and reached into his bag, grabbing his little green pills and popping one of them, giving John a look. "There. Go away now." John gave Dylan a half hug. "Love you too, kid." He had to get back to work so he left Dylan to writing, keeping an eye on his hyper little brother.

===================== Caffeine. It was strange to think that he'd managed so many years of his life without it. The notion of not having his morning cup now just freaked him out a little bit. More than freaked him out. The idea of being stuck in a lecture all day without a shot of juice working it's way through his system made him feel a little ill. There was no way he'd be able to maintain his lifestyle without it. It wasn't like he was really the partying type or anything but trying to fit in college, his additional studies and Mae all in at once proved to need a bit of help sometimes. Not that he would really change any of that in order to wean himself off. If anything he'd want to spend more hours of the way doing it and take more caffeine into his system to allow for it.
Entering the shop he smiled and closed his eyes momentarily, just absorbing that welcoming and comforting scent. He knew Starbucks a little more expensive than just making a pot before he left in the morning but he could trade money for quality. After all, there was no way he'd be able to get the right mix of beans and syrups at home. Coming up to the counter he looked over the menus on the wall above the serving point to consider his choices. He'd tried pretty much everything and tried not to be too repetitive with his choices so he didn't risk getting bored of his favorites. Making his mind up he looked down to the person behind the counter and was taken back slightly. It was not anyone he'd seen working here before and the last person he would have expected.
Dropping his mouth open in shock slightly his eyebrows rose almost comically as he registered what he was seeing. John Maddison. Angie's ... Angel's brother. Did this mean that she was back? That all the Maddison's were back? That a whole segment of his life was about to be reintroduced into his life. It was all a bit much to process as he stood there with a small queue forming behind him. "Uh... Hi John." He said with a small, shocked smile on his lips before he was able to close them again to wet his now dry mouth. "I uh, could I have a caramel macchiato please?" He asked, feeling as though if he'd said anything else it would be even more uncomfortable than it was now.

_______________________ John glanced up at the familiar voice, raising an eyebrow when whoever it was who spoke knew his name. He made it a point never to wear his own name badge. It was kind of a running gag at Starbucks. The badge of the day, in fact, read 'Karen'. When he saw Elijah, John quirked a little smile. Elijah was... an interesting guy. The only of Angel's boyfriends he and his dad hadn't managed to scare off in the first ten minutes. Elijah was a trip. "Navvy. Sup, man?" He said quietly with a quick nod of his head. Grabbing a cup, John wrote down the order and Elijah's name, handing it off to the real Karen who was wearing his own name badge. "Caramel macchiato." John glanced at Scott and jerked his head. "I'm going on break, dude, come run the register." Shifting around the edge of the counter, John jerked his head towards an empty table. "Don't worry about the drink. It's on me." He couldn't really tell why he was being so nice. Maybe it was the fact that John secretly felt kind of bad for Elijah, for what Elijah didn't know. "How've you been?"

===================== John's somwhat chilled responce made Elijah feel slightly more on edge than before. He was still stuck in a state of shock, the world around him seeming slightly more muffled than normal, and yet John was not shocked or surprised in the slightest to see Elijah standing in front of him. To be fair to the boy, it was true that the Maddisons were the ones who left, so seeing him in the city he'd lived in for a while wouldn't be as shocking but it still put him on edge. He nodded in responce to John's although he was fully aware that it would have been a slightly more delayed reaction than he would have hoped for. It was just all a little too much. If John was back it meant Angie could be back which would be more than just a slight surprise.
Blinking slowly to try and regain focus he smiled at John as he excused himself from work. Maybe he did have something to tell him if it would take longer than just a quick counter conversation. Taking his drink with a small nod of thanks to the girl called 'John' he took a sip to steady his nerves and was instantly more at pease. Caffine really was quite magical. Smiling brighter than before he moved towards the table with his past possible brother in law and placed his coffee between his hands nervously. "I'm good thanks. I mean, I've been good. I'm at NYU reading Sociology, just like I planned." he added with a slight nervous laugh, unsure really what else to tell the guy. "How about you, how've you been?" He asked brightly, finally getting over the shock of seeing him. "How are the family?" He knew that John would be able to read right through why he was asking about the other Maddisons but he couldn't be blamed for asking, surely.
